Alice’s Final Fantasy Series
My recent paintings reconstruct a visual world increasingly experienced through screens. Film stills, photographs, digital fragments, and AI-generated images become raw material that I translate through heightened color, shifting space, softened edges, and an intentionally imperfect surface. The electric hues echo the intensified color of digital images, but painting slows that experience down, allowing hesitation, accident, memory, and touch to remain visible. Embedded in this process are different histories of seeing—from European painting to Chinese visual culture and Tibetan thangka—not as quotations, but as influences on my sense of color, space, and rhythm. I am interested in the tension between the seamlessness of contemporary images and the vulnerability of the painted surface: how an image can be artificial, yet the experience it carries can still feel deeply human.
