The Weeping Sunday series is a body of portraiture paintings that investigates the complexity of persona. Everyone's appearance is constantly changing which is caused by one’s reaction to inner and/or external influence. At the same time, each facial expression of this person can add a subtle mark onto his/her features. From this point of view, everyone’s portraiture is the aggregate of this person’s life-experience which is continually expanding. Even when a person is momentarily angry, his/her face not only exhibits the upset gesture as the dominating feature but also subtly shows expressions such as peace and joy without being consciously aware. By depicting this phenomenon I use painterly brush marks and vibrant colors to indicate these figures’ subtle, but rich and complex, facial expressions. Simultaneously, accurately painted forms of the models represent their momentarily dominating emotions.
